February is HEART month, so all of us should be a bit more concious about heart health this month, especially because cardiovascular diseases, including stroke, are our nation’s No. 1 killer.

Try to get some extra exercise this month.  According to the latest joint American Heart Association/American College of Sports Medicine guidelines on physical activity, all healthy adults ages 18-65 should be getting at least 30 minutes of moderate intensity activity five days of the week.   Even smaller amounts of exercise can be helpful for your heart especially if you are not very active now.  Becoming more active can also help encourage your student be become healthier.

Diet also plays an important role in your health and the health of your heart.  It is important to educate yourself on issues of diet and healthy food choices.

The American Heart Association is a great resource for heart information www.americanheart.org
