May is Special

May 9th, 2008 by rpoore

Not only does the month of May contain my birthday, but it is also special because it is National Physical Fitness and Sport month.

May 2008– “Healthy, physically active kids learn better!” That is the key message the pysical education department of Pleasantville wants to express in honor of May: National Physical Fitness and Sports Month. However, to achieve that goal the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE) urges parents, schools and communities to work together to help children become more physically active by creating “physical activity friendly” environments.

You can help, by offering your child opportunities outside of the school day to be active.  When it is nice out encourage your child to go outside and play, go to the park with your child on the weekends, or sign your child up for little leauges.  Little things like monitoring how much television your child watches, or video games they play.  It is unrealistic to think that all of our students will have the opportunity to exercise every day, but we need to be encouraging to get as much exercise as possible.

Happy Physical Fitness and Sport Month to you all.
