As a quick reminder we wanted to reiterate that it is important for our students to be prepared for P.E. (Physical Education). This means sneakers when possible. Students may not have open toed shoes or shoes with a heel. Thanks for your support and we look forward to seeing you soon.

As you know the second marking period has come to a close and the holiday season is upon us. We know it is a very busy time of year for everyone, but the P. E. Deparment is never to busy to speak with a parent or guardian regarding their child. Please, if you have any questions why your student received the grade they did, or just want to talk about your child’s progress, do not hesitate to call or e-mail us. With that said we would like to wish all of our students and parents a very safe, happy and healthy holiday.

To All 4th Grade Parents,

During the month of October the Phys. Ed. department will be administering the state required fitness-gram test to all 4Th grade students. This test is basically a pre-test to measure students flexibility, muscular strength, muscular endurance, and cardio-respiratory endurance. The tests are as follows:

15 Meter Pacer Test (Its bascically a shuttle run)

Push-up Test

Curl-up Test (crunches)

Sit and Reach Test (Hamstring flexibility)

Trunk Lift (Back strength and flexibility)

In April the students will be retested to assess if our Physical education program is helping your student to improve his/her overall level of fitness. Being that we only see your student twice a week for 45 minutes it is imperative that they stay active at home. Some helpful tips to help your student be the best that they can be are as follows:

While watching TV challenge your student to do 5 push-ups or crunches at each commercial.

Go for a walk or run with your student.

Encourage your student to play outside instead of sitting inside playing video games.

Your student’s overall health is in our best interests. We encourage and applaud your efforts in helping us to achieve our goal.

Thank you for all of your help and support!!

Sincerely,

Pleasantville P.E. Department

I love my job as a Physical Educator because I not only get to deal with sports and athletics, but also the opportunity to invest in young people’s lives. I am more than excited for the opportunity to share things so valuable to me and to hopefully make an impact on my students that will impact their quality of living for the rest of their lives.
