As you know the second marking period has come to a close and the holiday season is upon us. We know it is a very busy time of year for everyone, but the P. E. Deparment is never to busy to speak with a parent or guardian regarding their child. Please, if you have any questions why your student received the grade they did, or just want to talk about your child’s progress, do not hesitate to call or e-mail us. With that said we would like to wish all of our students and parents a very safe, happy and healthy holiday.
Sincerely,
Pleasantville P.E. Department

To All 4th Grade Parents,
During the month of October the Phys. Ed. department will be administering the state required fitness-gram test to all 4Th grade students. This test is basically a pre-test to measure students flexibility, muscular strength, muscular endurance, and cardio-respiratory endurance. The tests are as follows:
- 15 Meter Pacer Test (Its bascically a shuttle run)
- Push-up Test
- Curl-up Test (crunches)
- Sit and Reach Test (Hamstring flexibility)
- Trunk Lift (Back strength and flexibility)
In April the students will be retested to assess if our Physical education program is helping your student to improve his/her overall level of fitness. Being that we only see your student twice a week for 45 minutes it is imperative that they stay active at home. Some helpful tips to help your student be the best that they can be are as follows:
- While watching TV challenge your student to do 5 push-ups or crunches at each commercial.
- Go for a walk or run with your student.
- Encourage your student to play outside instead of sitting inside playing video games.
Your student’s overall health is in our best interests. We encourage and applaud your efforts in helping us to achieve our goal.
Thank you for all of your help and support!!
Sincerely,
Pleasantville P.E. Department

Not only does the month of May contain my birthday, but it is also special because it is National Physical Fitness and Sport month.
May 2008– “Healthy, physically active kids learn better!” That is the key message the pysical education department of Pleasantville wants to express in honor of May: National Physical Fitness and Sports Month. However, to achieve that goal the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE) urges parents, schools and communities to work together to help children become more physically active by creating “physical activity friendly” environments.
You can help, by offering your child opportunities outside of the school day to be active. When it is nice out encourage your child to go outside and play, go to the park with your child on the weekends, or sign your child up for little leauges. Little things like monitoring how much television your child watches, or video games they play. It is unrealistic to think that all of our students will have the opportunity to exercise every day, but we need to be encouraging to get as much exercise as possible.
Happy Physical Fitness and Sport Month to you all.

You can help your child’s overall fitness by providing opportunities for activity. Take your child to the park, for a walk, or just outside to “play.” Pleasantville students should be able to teach you and others different activities that will help to increase their overall fitness level. Just 30 minutes a day of play can go a long way to increase your child’s overall quality of life.
